Multiple Deprivation Index is a study of deprivation areas in the UK. As of 2007 this is split into 3 separate datasets, collected separately for England, Scotland and Wales; losing some consistency on when the dataset is taken and what stats are included.
Each dataset is a composite of several statistics which may be applicable separately, although they are not separately catalogued. The "MD20" and “MD40” aka the most deprived 20% and 40% of areas lists is derived from this. Note there are several different modes of access, including post code..

XLSX, XML, CSV depending on area.
Key entities and code lists (integration and data-linking potential)
The key entity is the layer super output areas (LSOA) key for linking to other geographical regional datasets.
Local authority region
Lost some consistency now data is collected separately. Different areas have different tools to help navigate the data.
Record for each LSOA neighborhood (32,844 records for England) have been divided according to their deprivation rank into 10 equal groups.
Ranked on ‘domains of deprivation’:
Education, Skills and Training Deprivation
Health Deprivation and Disability
Barriers to Housing and Services
Living Environment Deprivation
Some data has been updated for the following aggregations: Communities First clusters; Deprivation Tenths; Local Authorities; Lower-layer Super Output Areas (LSOA) (2011 Census); Middle-layer Super Output Areas (MSOA) (2011 Census); Strategic Regeneration area; Urban/ Rural Classification; and Urban/ Rural Classification in each Local Authority.
